Gluckstadt Inn Bed & Breakfast The house has been in the Minninger family since 1912, and was the first family farm built in the small German community of Gluckstadt almost 100 years ago. Named Gluckstadt after the German phrase "happy village" by the German immigrant farmers who moved their farms here from Indiana in 1905 via railroad, several descendants of the first settlers still live in the area.
In the front room are several vintage photographs of the family and the surrounding community. These include St. Joseph Catholic Church just down the road, where three church buildings have stood. The Gluckstadt German Festival is held on the grounds in September each year, complete with German food, games, and lively dancing while tubas and other instruments play in the background. There are several sitting rooms for relaxing, watching television, or reading, and are appointed with period antiques. Three guest rooms are available, with each including a queen size bed, private bath with vintage claw foot tub with shower. Other standard amenities include hairdryer, private phones, cable television, and high speed internet access. Shown above is the downstairs Aunt's Room.
Holley's Room, with sitting area, located upstairs. Click on each image here to zoom in. The Miller Suite is a larger room, and also includes a sofa sleeper in a sitting room area. There is a guest refrigerator that is stocked downstairs in the dining area. An upstairs -screened porch invites you to sit and unwind. Breakfast consists of fresh homemade pastries and rolls, with evening refreshments and cookies. The location of the Inn provides easy access to the metro area and attractions, and is located within 15 minutes from area shopping, businesses, restaurants, the Ross Barnett Reservoir, and the Natchez Trace. The nearby town of Canton with its' historic town square has been the site of several movies, and attracts many thousands to the bi-annual Canton Flea Market each year (held the second Thursday in May and October). Adults with children are welcome, no smoking indoors or pets. We commend Jennifer for doing an exceptional job, with renovation throughout, and as Innkeeper for the Inn. Directions: |
