Elegant Hotel Overlooking Downtown Natchez
by Tommy Ford
Since 1927 the Natchez Eola Hotel has graced the corner of Pearl and Main in downtown Natchez's historic business district. The Eola provides the traveler accommodations in the style of the grand hotels of the past. The marble trimmed lobby, rich with statuary and gilt furnishings provide a glimpse into the elegance of that era.
Lobby of the Natchez Eola Hotel
The Natchez Eola provides guests accommodations through 131 rooms. Many are suites and some have balcony's with river views. Two onsite restaurants provide dining opportunities as well as a chance to relax after a day of shopping and taking in the sights which have made historic Natchez famous. The Eola also makes available banquet facilities ranging from meeting space to a grand ballroom.
The Eola Hotel is just three blocks from the riverfront
For our visit we enjoyed a seventh floor suite with balconies affording panoramic views of the Mississippi River and historic Natchez. The Eola has long been the tallest building in Natchez so the views are unobstructed.
Our Bedroom Suite
Our lavishly furnished suite provided every comfort we could have desired, and included two bathrooms.

During your visit be sure to take some time to stroll around the Eola. There are many opportunities for photographs. Historic newspaper clippings from the 1927 opening of the hotel are displayed in the lobby.
Some of the famous that have stayed at the Eola over the years include Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Cliff, Tom Mix, and General Douglas McArthur.
The Eola is centrally located in downtown Natchez's history business district. There are many interesting shops featuring antiques, books, and other unique items. Several restaurants and clubs are located within easy walking distance as is the Natchez Convention Center.
Flaming Fountain in the Courtyard
The "fire and water" fountain in the New Orleans style courtyard make clear that the Eola is a place with an identity all it's own.
We would like to thank the staff of the Natchez Eola Hotel for their assistance with our feature.

Hop on a horse carriage at the nearby Canal Street Depot for an affordable tour ($15 for adults) to get a full appreciation of the historic downtown area. The annual Natchez Spring Pilgrimage offers tours of historic antebellum houses around town and originated at the hotel in 1932. The oldest building in town is King's Tavern which dates to 1789 and is said by many to be haunted.
Within walking distance are numerous antique shops filled with interesting rareties. You can also take a hike along the Natchez Trails as it follows the river below the bluffs.
