Magnolia Hotel, Dallas, Texas
Chic Hotel In Downtown Dallas Landmark
by Carl Burnham
When entering the lobby of the Magnolia Hotel in Dallas, I was impressed by the soft lighting, elegant designs, and unique staircase with etched glass that leads to two levels of public areas upstairs. The lobby area by the elevators includes the original gold-leaf ceiling and chandeliers.
Watch a Video of the Magnolia Hotel Up Close
The Magnolia Hotel is conveniently located downtown within walking distance from several area restaurants (the Iron Cactus is next door) and numerous attractions, including the Dallas Aquarium and the Dallas Museum of Art. A Starbucks is housed just inside the building, with DART light rail stop just across the street. Free car transportation is provided downtown with advance notice. Valet parking is available on-site from $22 per night, although we chose to park close by just down the street by Neiman Marcus.
The Magnolia Hotel includes 330 guest rooms which vary in size from 350 square feet for Guest Rooms (Queen Bed) to 650 square feet Suites. There are 129 Suites that include convenient kitchen and living areas, perfect for a business or extended stay.
Queen-Sized Bed in Studio Suite
Our Studio Suite included a comfortable queen-sized bed with plush pillows, armoire, cable TV, and alarm/radio, a living area that includes sofa, chair, and cable TV. The kitchen included a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffeemaker and coffee, silverware, and dishes. From the windows of our 10th floor suite we had views of downtown Dallas.
The bathtub/shower area was roomy, with bath amenities made specially for Magnolia Hotels. Free Wi-fi Internet is available in all areas of the hotel.
24 Hour Fitness Room
The fitness area provides the latest workout equipment, including free weights, exercise ball, individual TVs, and a Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi was closed for repairs during our visit.
Bar and Lounge Area
Nightly specials start with a complimentary beverage served from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the bar area, with your choice of a glass of wine, draft beer, or soft drink.
The upper level lounge and meeting areas have a stylish glass design, with open views to the lobby below. The lounge ceiling has a festive array of stars that change colors every few seconds.
Cookie Bar Goodies at the Magnolia Hotel
After playing some billiards, visiting with friends in the bar or the library by the fireplace, satisfy your sweet tooth by enjoying complimentary fresh baked cookies and milk (available as low-fat, strawberry, or chocolate) from 8 to 10 pm. My wife especially liked the cinnamon snickerdoodles.
The public areas have 12 meeting rooms of different sizes for holding all types of events (totaling 8,000 square feet). In addition, the luxurious Pegasus ballroom has themed lighting underneath 18-foot ceilings, and is just across the street (totaling 3,500 square feet). Events at the Pegasus ballroom can be arranged for gatherings of up to 235 people.
Breakfast at the Magnolia Hotel
Complimentary breakfast selections include eggs, hash browns, sausage, toast, pastries, cereals, yogurt, tea, and Starbucks coffee. Breakfast is served daily from 6 - 9 am weekdays, and 7 - 10 am on weekends.
