Rustic 1850's Log Cabin Hideaway

Situated next to a 3 acre pond on a 41 acre ranch in rural Washington County, Lonesome Dove B&B is two-story restored cabin built with chinked logs. As we arrived late in the day, we entered to find peaceful music playing and glowing candles welcoming our arrival.

Living Room

The cabin is appointed with country decorations, including photographs of the owner's ancestors from more simple times. A TV/VCR is in the downstairs corner, along with videos (including Lonesome Dove), armoire, two sofas, chairs, and sitting table.

As we made our way upstairs to the bedroom, we admired the antique tools and hides along the wall, and the unique wood banister.

The stately Queen Anne style house was designed by a German architect in 1887

The bedroom upstairs includes a log framed king-sized bed, with a queen-sized sleeper sofa, and armoire. The hardwood floors and log walls had us imagining being in the Old West, and what it was like before all of our modern conveniences.

Kitchenette Entrance and Breakfast Basket

The log cabin includes dishes, silverware, coffee with coffeemaker, teas, a mini and regular sized refrigerator, toaster, and microwave. Our morning breakfast basket came with grapes, pears, cinammon muffins, banana bread, bagels with cream cheese, orange juice, and milk.

The private bath was appointed with a clawfoot tub, stocked with shampoos/soap, robes, and a book of love poems to read while relaxing.

Lonesome Dove Fishing Pond

For those wanting to try your hand at fishing in the pond, there is fishing gear at the ready on the porch. We saw photos of some guests who had caught some sizable bass. A canoe sits ready if wanting to paddle around the 3 acre pond. Just behind the log cabin is a hiking trail that leads to the other side of the pond. Another leads to a meditation garden behind the owner's restored 1889 farmhouse down the road, and also nearby where you can say hello to Gus and Buster (Arabian horses) and see some of the owner's unusual chickens and birds. All of the landscaping has been added over the years by the Barnetts to add to the scenic beauty of the property.

Firepit by the Pond

In the evening, you can enjoy making a fire in the firepit (wood provided) to cook marshmellows or sit on the porch listening to the night sounds of the woods and seeing the night sky full of stars.

There is no smoking or pets allowed. We did met a very friendly cat by the cabin, which loved the attention we gave it. The Barnetts plan to build additional cabins on the property in the future.
