Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Top Live Band Trans-Siberian Orchestra Delivers Powerful Message
by Carl Burnham
From our fingers to our toes, we were mesmorized as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra took to the stage for their performance in Austin. TSO kept us spellbound during three hours of explosive musical talent. With uplifting and positive orchestral vocals, with a rock band, strings, violins, over thirty musicians appear on stage, complete with narration, lasers, lights, and pyrotechnics. All these components come together seamlessly in a unique rock-and-roll and symphonic orchestra kaleidoscope of music and colors celebrating the Christmas season.
Paul O'Neill, the orchestra leader and founder of TSO, uses influences from bands such as Pink Floyd, ELO, and Black Sabbath, to create an emotionally driven experience as a rock orchestra. O'Neill began TSO in 1996, which prior to that included promotion, management and production for bands such as The Scorpions, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Def Leppard, and AC/DC. This season is their biggest ever, with a whirlwind tour of over 130 shows in 80 cities in a ten week period that began November 1st. According to Billboard magazine (July 28, 2007), TSO was the #1 Live Band as far as attendance.
Fantastic Laser Light Show of the
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
During the course of the first part of the show, an inspirational story is told of an angel helping a war torn world find the true meaning of Christmas, with powerful lead singers belting out holiday classics. We were amazed at the vocal range of the singers, and the talented violinists, guitarists, drummer, pianists, and local Austin Symphony strings. At one point during the performance snow falls to the amazement of the crowd. The second part of the show is more of a rock concert with impressive mix of lights and pyrotechnics (which emit from the stage and a raised platform behind the audience seated on the arena floor. Joked O'Neill, "You're talking about a band that spends over $1,000,000 a month on pyro, but only when we're on tour." TSO has now become a holiday tradition for many. Gauging by the enthusiasm of the crowd, it's no wonder that the popularity of TSO continues to grow each year. We would like to thank TSO and Cataldi Public Relations for assisting with our feature.
