The largest 4th of July fireworks display - we are there
The skies lit up in Austin as the Austin
Symphony sponsored this huge fireworks display, the 32nd year that
the Austin Symphony has presented and paid for this event. This is the
only orchestra in the country that pays for their own fireworks event.
Over 100,000 were on hand, as the concert started at 8:30 pm. This is
the largest fireworks event in Texas, and possibly the country.
Patriotic
songs, an Arms Forces salute, the Olympics, Raiders of the Lost Ark,
with a grand finale of the full 1812 Overture (with 75-millimeter
Howitzer cannons from the Texas National Guard Salute Battery).
The
fireworks began during the playing of the Stars and Stripes Forever at
9:30 pm. It was a wonderful way to spend the 4th, as we had a firsthand
closeup view via our kayaks from Lady Bird Lake.
Here is a video
snippet of the "Grand Finale" I captured from the event from my kayak.
Look for more to come.
Plus, more fireworks...
